MMSA Methanol Notes – 2019-12-17
US Methanol Apparent Demand – 2019 Growth Modestly Positive, Net Import Position Retained
The growth shown in United States methanol demand continues to parallel the country’s macroeconomic growth, which remains modestly positive. Formaldehyde, and acetic acid consumption of methanol have shown limited growth in 2019, whereas biodiesel demand continues to flag. Additionally, as USGC facilities have been running at suboptimal rates, net trade of methanol has yet to be sustainably negative (i.e. the country continues to import more methanol than it exports), with total 2019 net trade still positive overall.
